John Laverick, a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute has spent most of his career in a ‘watery’ environment. Beginning at the Port of Bristol Authority, his main career then developed within Navy Works retiring as Operations Director Plymouth.
In 1994 he moved to the Broads Authority (later classified as a National Park) to manage a Millennium Lottery Project and other river navigation schemes. In 1997 he was appointed as Project Manager to the Kennet and Avon Canal Partnership where he delivered, on time and to budget, the acclaimed Heritage Lottery funded restoration of that Waterway winning in the process national prizes in the fields of engineering and the natural environment. Following the formal reopening of the Kennet & Avon Canal by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, John joined the Cotswold Canals Restoration Team as Project Manager. After a the successful outcome of the bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund he then moved into the British Waterways senior management structure. Retiring as Operations Manager South West at the beginning of 2006 John was elected as Chairman of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust.
Throughout all of his career, whilst building and maintaining harbour and dockside facilities for large ships and then for smaller leisure craft, he has, together with his wife and two daughters spent his own leisure time messing about in small boats of all shapes and sizes. Currently owning and operating a coal fired Edwardian style steam launch. |
