Circular walks taking in parts of the Wilts & Berks Canal. The annual guided walks in and around Wantage and the surrounding villages are an opportunity to learn about the history of the canal, the ongoing restoration and to enjoy the countryside in the Summer. Come prepared with suitable shoes or boots. Some routes may have stiles. TUESDAY 14th June 7.30pm A circular walk around Childrey and West Challow taking in the newly restored section of canal north of Childrey. About 2 ½ miles starting and finishing at Childrey Village Green Ref 362875
SUNDAY 19th JUNE 2.30pm A afternoon circular walk following the Wantage Branch of the Canal together with the main line between East Challow and Grove. Meet at the Sackhouse, Wantage Wharf, off Mill Street Ref 396881 (There is no parking at this location nearest parking is at the pay and display Limborough Road ( under the Sainsbury’s car park)
THURSDAY 23rd JUNE 7.30pm An exploration of the remains of the Grove flight of six locks, starting and finishing at Grove Recreation Ground, Cane Lane. Grove REF 398898 The path can be overgrown so shorts not recommended. Come prepared for nettles.
SATURDAY 25th June 10.30am The Long one! A circular walk starting and finishing at the Vale & Downland Museum. Map Ref 397879 Route goes via East Challow to Sparsholt and returns via the canal ( where footpaths permit) Take in the views ( weather permitting) across the Vale from the path to Childrey.
