| Wootton Bassett Branch Work Parties |
Work Party ProjectsRoyal Wootton Bassett work parties take place each Wednesday – usually starting out from Chaddington lock compound. Work parties are held from about 08.15 to mid afternoon but people can turn up and leave at time to suit themselves. We work on a number of different sites but usually meet at our work compound next to Chaddington Lock off Bincknoll Lane. From here we can work in different areas along our stretch of canal. Our work at the moment involves excavating a short section of canal below the lock, running a weed cutter boat to keep two sections of canal weed free, hedge cutting and laying, grass cutting and towpath maintenance plus dozens of other jobs which crop up on a regular basis. There are up to a dozen regular volunteers from all walks of life, some skilled in canal restoration tasks but mostly not. We welcome new volunteers so feel free to visit us one Wednesday and see what we are up to. We can provide tea and coffee but bring your own lunch. You will need tough footwear and suitable warm clothing, strong gloves are advisable as well. Give me a call if you are thinking of coming along and I can give you directions and details of where we will be working. Contact me via phone or e mail if you need any further information.
