3The latest restoration project to be started by the Wootton Bassett branch at Chaddington is a replacement for the spill-weir.

This shows the location of the site in relation to Chaddington Lock before any restoration work commenced.

The branch operate work parties on Wednesdays (although these will not necessarily focus on the spillweir) as well as many at weekends.

Contact the branch if you would like to join or assist with their restoration projects.

10th November update:2

Work is continuing apace on the new spillway construction. The picture (above) shows the progress made both in terms of excavation and preparation.

These photographs were taken by branch Chair, Jenny Stratton showing branch members getting on with the early stages of the restoration.

As these photographs show there has already been a considerable amount of concrete put in place to provide a solid foundation.

The photograph below shows just how much earth has been moved during the exercise - that is some task in itself.

The next stage of the restoration is to construct the shuttering and reinforcing steel for the concrete pillars and wall.

Thanks to Jenny for the regular update and the photographs.
