June 1875: Sale of the Canal

In an advertisment in another column, the committee of the Wilts and Berks canal company announce that they are resolved to dispose of the canal as a going concern, and that they have received several offers for the same.

They ask for further offers, which will be laid before the adjourned meeting at the end of the month.

The Committee of the Wilts and Berks Canal company having resolved with the consent of the Proprietors to dispose of the canal, with its undertakings; and having received certain offers for the same, are open to consider further tenders for the purchase thereof from any person or persons desirous of purchasing the same as a going concern.
The tenders are to be sent to H.C. Crowdy, Esq Highworth, Wiltshire on or before 28th June inst, after which the adjourned meeting of the Committee will assemble to entertain any such propositions. The Committee do not pledge themselves to accept the highest or any tender.
