An article describes Canal Superintendent William Dunsford's home at Fairholm House near the old Drove Road Canal Bridge at Swindon. The Dunsford family were recorded as living in the Canal House in 1841. The house and job passed to Dunsford's son when he died in 1845.  By 1891 the house had passed to a private occupier. The canal itself was never particularly successful, but was at it's busiest in 1830's when it conveyed vast quanitities of material for the building of the Great Western Railway.
