Wilts & Berks Canal Trust

Details supplied by candidates standing for election to Council at the 2009 AGM

Brian Stovold (member for a number of years, Director since 2006)

  • In real life I work as a Relationship Manager in LloydsTSB Commercial ie business banking. This week it is 30 years since I joined the Bank!
  • However I have had an interest in Industrial Archaeology since school, where my geography teacher was a leading light in the local IA group. A primary school visit to the locks behind Grove must have left an impression on me as when I happened to notice that there was a local branch of the canal trust locally I decided to join. At that time we met at the Volunteer and were working at Elm Farm and Stockham.
  • Having lived in the Wantage and Grove area since childhood I have grown up with the industrial heritage eg the railways and the canal and a desire to protect and preserve what is left, and I feel passionately about the restoration of the canal and the benefits it would bring to the district.
  • I continue to do a variety of talks to local groups and the popular Summer Festival walks around Wantage and the villages.
  • If re-elected to Council I will continue to represent my Branch to the best of my ability and to continue to press for further restoration projects locally.
