Quiz Night

This was an excellent evening, we had the greatest number of teams entered, had a very successful raffle, sold lots of cakes, and raised a total of £559.53 – a record!

Very many thanks to Brian and Sandy Wright for organising the quiz – without them offering to take this on we would have dropped the event for this year. Thanks also to Paul Tucker for doing the administration, to Alan Lank for being a superb MC, to the refreshments and marking teams, and to everyone who helped in any way – a great achievement.

Mary Archard Trips

The first official boat trips and pop-up café event with invited guests was a great success. Brian and Sandy used the community minibus to transport three ladies with limited mobility, and Nat made his own way in a motorized wheelchair. All thoroughly enjoyed their experience on the Mary Archard, as did many visitors who arrived via the footpath; six trips were completed in all, many thanks to Derek for skippering all day.

The canal looked wonderful thanks to the efforts of the work parties, and we were delighted to raise £301.04 in the donations bucket, plus another £100 cheque. Many thanks to everyone who has helped with this project – it is wonderful to see the canal being used for what it is intended!

Office Changes

With effect from Monday 14th May 2018 the office is open for a few hours on a Tuesday and Thursday morning. The office has a new telephone number and calls to the previous office telephone numbers should be directed to this number on or before 16th May. The new number is 0845 625 1977

You will undoubtedly have heard of the new legislation about data protection called General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The Trust is compliant with this new legislation, as it was with the Data Protection Act before it. We have recently been doing the following:

  • Written to many of our members to ask if we may continue to communicate with them in the way in which we had become established, including membership renewals, newsletters and work party management etc. This required a formal reply in the form of an Opt-In. Not everybody was addressed because some members had already given their consent on earlier occasions (including the AGM last year and the email data exercise in 2016);
  • We have established the purposes for which we need to process personal data and the lawful bases which justify the processing;
  • We have identified the data elements which we need in order to process personal data;
  • We have a new privacy notice on the website;
  • We are drafting a Data Protection Policy;
  • We have a process in place to handle Subject Access Requests.

The Data Protection Policy will be available to members once it has been endorsed by the Board of Trustees.

Thank You

As many of you are already aware, George Eycott has stepped down from his role as Membership Secretary and compiler of ‘On the Button’. The Trust would like to thank George very much for all the hard work he has done, for many years, on both membership matters and ‘On the Button’, and for his continued support in other areas of the Trust’s work.

OTB will be with you as usual at the beginning of July and will be produced by the Communications Team.

Any Ideas?

If you have any suggestions you would like to be considered by the Executive, they would like to hear from you. Just email ideas@wbct.org.uk

Volunteer Hours

It is vital the Trust captures all your hard work so we can demonstrate to a wider audience just how much is going on, especially with the forthcoming grant applications which are to be submitted. If you are a volunteer please send your hours to juanita.poulton@wbct.org.uk - there is a new simpler standard form for recording volunteer work which is available from Juanita
