Wharf Road culvert

Wharf Road culvert construction, supported by Swindon Borough Council, is the first visible evidence of preparations for the M4 crossing.

The most recent manifestation of Swindon Borough Council's ongoing support for the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust's restoration projects, in and beyond the Borough, is the recent construction of a concrete culvert across the canal line near Junction 16 of the M4. This will be part of the diversion of Wharf Road, from Wroughton to the motorway junction, and is a key component in the Wichelstowe Southern Access Scheme. This picture clearly shows the canal passage, the towpath and the shelf for the small animals' trail.
