East Wichel Leak

East Wichel Leak

Those living in East Wichel are all too aware that the canal there, constructed over 10 years ago, has been leaking.  This became apparent only after a few dry years; since then the Council has appointed contractors to investigate & fix.  This has necessarily taken a long time; one leak by the end of the houses was seemingly fixed but when that section was refilled it still leaked, so a second repair was carried out.  It's early days but it seems to be holding.  Another section, by the aqueduct over the Wroughton Brook (River Ray) was found to be leaking, so that has been dug out and fixed (photo).  The intention is to seal all leaks in that section by the time it's joined up to the length by Waitrose, which has held water remarkably well.  Planning permissions for that link are currently being obtained in order for work to start with the next phase of development.
