Our canal can be an excellent focus for community activity and help develop civic pride
Membership is largely organised into 5 Branches which cover the whole length of the canal, from Melksham though Swindon and on to Abingdon.
Members are encouraged to join in with Branch and Trust activities. You can read your Branch newsletter from the comfort of your armchair, check out our facebook page as you walk into work, attend an evening talk, take part in a working party (no gym membership fees!), walk along the towpath enjoying the wildlife whatever the weather, take a boat trip, learn all sorts of new skills including how to skipper a boat, lay a brick, or even serve a pint (yes we own a canal side pub, currently undergoing refurbishment), help organise fund raising activities, plan a project… and just about anything else you can think of.
It’s all about the canal, and about the people.
Our members say:
“It’s my gym”
“I want to take my grandchildren down to the lock and show them what I did!”
“I didn’t want to lose the sense of companionship and support that I had when I was working”
“I am new to the area and I want to meet new friends”
“ I want to be part of something worthwhile”
Join us in our journey to create and cherish this regional treasure.
