A tribute to Roy

Brian Stovold, Chair of East Vale branch writes...

"We are sad to announce the death of one of East Vale branch's longest members and volunteers, Roy Murrell. Roy (in the red shirt) was one of East Vale's characters and is irreplaceable. The Branch Work Party Organiser for many many years, his van in the WBCT colours of blue and yellow was a regular sight at branch work parties, full of useful equipment.

Roy and Barbara's branch raffles were legendary and a highlight of the branch meetings, giving a much needed slice of entertainment to the meetings. In early days, Roy also organised barn dances and quiz nights for the fundraising and social efforts in the Vale. Roy and Barbara were well-deserved invitees to the Royal Garden Party a few years ago, as kindly provided by our Patron HRH the Duchess of Cornwall and I know they enjoyed the day.

Roy's health had been deteriorating for some time but at our last phone call he remained his usual cheerful self, and it is his generosity of spirit, his great sense of humour and smile, and his all round efforts for the canal restoration that I shall remember. I would like to expressi the sincere sympathies of the Board of Trustees, Executive, and members, especially their fellow East Vale members, to Barbara and family at this sad time"
