Growing the Canal

These two illustrations show just how much new canal there will be in a few years' time in Swindon. The first is the M4 tunnel, for which we hope to receive the go-ahead very soon. It also shows the road tunnel and the Wharf Road diversion presently under construction, under which the canal will pass. The second shows how & where the section by Waitrose / H & W will link up to the one at East Wichel, currently being investigated for leaks & having the reeds cut back. This has to be completed by the time 2,000 dwellings are occupied in Wichelstowe, and will more than double the length available for boats. It will also take us a long way towards the Trust's top priority of linking Swindon & Royal Wootton Bassett by water!
