Heritage Heroes Project at Pewsham

The Help for Heroes volunteering phase has just finished at the Pewsham Heritage Heroes project.

Our military veterans said of their experience with us:

“ I enjoyed working with the different WBCT volunteers to see how they approached each job... I appreciated being able to try to do the job by myself with Basil there ready to help if I needed it... it’s made me think what I might want to do for the future, it might be teaching or training with young people... its opened my eyes to the canal and its wild life... a sense of tranquillity... its turned my life around in six weeks after years of therapy...”

Thank you to all the great people from Help for Heroes who joined us over the last 6 weeks.

It was a privilege to meet you and to work with you. We all wish you the very best in the future.

The Gazette & Herald printed:

"Project is a win for all involved
The project in which military veterans helped with the work of the Wilts and Berks Canal Trust has been beneficial for all concerned.
It has been good for the Trust for obvious reasons, and it has also been good for the veterans' future welfare.
All too often, people leaving the armed forces after years of service find that their existing skills are only useful to a point, and that new skills are hard to come by. This is especially true for veterans who have suffered life-changing injuries.
Other organisations, not least certain Government agencies, would do well to emulate the Trust's example."
